Digital Step On-line Accreditation System

Dream Ireland developed the Digital Step on-line system to record the achievements of young people taking part in digital media based learning activities.

The system is based around the Digital Media Awards, a series of learning programmes developed by Dream Ireland and accredited through the Youth Achievement Awards.

The Digital Media Awards allow young people to work on a variety of digital media projects without being restricted by a set syllabus. While carrying out different activities they can undertake different levels of responsibility. The different degrees of responsibility determine the level of the Awards that young people will be able to obtain. There are four different levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Each participant will keep a record of his / her achievements in an on-line portfolio. Participants can access their portfolio using a password, anywhere and at any time.

This system gives young people the opportunity to develop IT skills, use a recording format that can be more appealing to them than a paper based one, and it allows participants to view and reflect on their progress in their own time. It also enables young people to submit their work and achievements to perspective employers, and schools / colleges where they wish to undertake further training. An easy-to-access portfolio also promotes their sense of ownership and achievement.

Youth workers and organisations responsible for the delivery of the awards will be able to easily access and store information on young people taking part in the learning programmes.
